THE FERRY TERMINAL

is the gateway into the coastal city of Saulsalito. With their existing ferry landing infrastructure deteriorating, the city required a new boarding platform. Not only does this new landing provide the city with an avenue into San Francisco, Berkley, and Oakland but it also allows the city to flourish by ferrying tourists. As the entry into Saulsalito’s downtown area, tourists and locals can enjoy the views of the neighboring cities while waiting to board the ferry.

SITE PLAN

The new ferry landing extends further out into the bay then the previous landing to provided more maneuverability while docking. Two ships can now load and offload their passengers concurrently, which wasn’t previously possible and the design accounts for the shifting in the tides as well. The new pier connection sits at a fixed height while the boarding apron floats freely. The gangway is connected to allow it to pivot to meet the rising and lowering of the ocean tides.
