The new ferry landing extends further out into the bay then the previous landing to provided more maneuverability while docking. Two ships can now load and offload their passengers concurrently, which wasn’t previously possible and the design accounts for the shifting in the tides as well. The new pier connection sits at a fixed height while the boarding apron floats freely. The gangway is connected to allow it to pivot to meet the rising and lowering of the ocean tides.
